What we do
Excavation and Preparation
In most cases concrete projects require some ground or grade preparation. Depending upon the base material existing on your project there may be a need to remove or add material. We usually pour concrete 4” thick for sidewalks and patios and 4”-6” thick for driveways and traffic areas. Any fixed elevations such as city sidewalks, stairs or drains will determine the elevation of the new concrete as well as the grade preparation required. Installing a sub base of good draining granular material will ensure proper thickness of concrete as well as provide drainage before and after concrete has been poured. We can provide all levels of excavation and preparation from basic shovel work to excavators and material disposal and delivery.
Drainage
Concrete is essentially a waterproof product and needs to have slope. Unless your concrete will be placed flat or indoors we place the concrete with slope to drain the water off the concrete surface. In some case where the concrete has to slope towards the building or has no where to slope away, drains needs to be installed. These usually call for either catch basins or trench drains. These can be installed and tied into your existing drainage systems. We are very experienced at installing drainage and can offer a variety of solutions. We also offer repairs for existing drainage problems.
Concrete Finishes
Concrete in its liquid form for can be moulded into virtually any shape. In addition we can apply a variety of finishing techniques to create customized installations enhancing your project design. Some of the most common are broom finished or exposed aggregate. You can also add color or textured patterns to concrete even in combination with other finishing techniques to create a custom look. Our tradesman are experienced in all finishing techniques and can add value to your project albeit a simple broom finished sidewalk or a 10,000 square foot custom driveway. Have a look at our gallery or if you have something in mind let us know.
Reinforcing concrete, foundations and slabs
In most cases concrete requires reinforcement in order for it to last. Once concrete has set it has a tendency to crack and although we aim to minimize this happening it is sometimes unavoidable. In order to minimize cracking, forming and finishing techniques are employed such as use of rebar and installation of control joints. Concrete mix designs and additives can also prevent cracking and extend the life of your project. At Grants concrete we are very experienced at formwork for foundations, retaining walls and concrete slabs. We can build anything from your basic garage foundation to exposed architectural walls, including placement of rebar for vertical and flat work to engineered specifications. We can also work with you on obtaining building permits and engineered drawings if required, at Grants Concrete your in good hands.
